When will it be over? This pandemic or time of Covid is hard - changing routines, meetings, work, places to go, people to meet - all a little or a lot different. Haven't seen my Charlottesville families for almost 2 years (except for the 3 holidays) - feel isolated.
Luckily being with Deej helps - daily walks and 15 minute meditation, food, shopping. Deej has been making supper almost every night - because of her Crohn's disease, we have changed to foods which she can eat. She's taken up and added serious daily exercises.
Online is nice in some ways - being able to do work from home is nice - though I had a work computer crash once already and the laptop has not fully recovered. And it's hard not to be face to face with other workers, especially liaisons. Zoom is nice, but also not the same - connections are not close, not complete, cold. Kara helped send infected Kerchof Hall library books to her freezer and they are just now (mid-Feb 2022) okay to send to the Cottage (4 bags/boxes) for cataloging and one bag/box to Special Collections for the Hauser Collection. Have gone to the Cottage a few times to work on reviewing shipments (from Iran or Cairo or Delhi) for further processing.
Continue to take photos and share albums or videos, mostly on Face Book. Like recently - "Just snow again". Photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/99HY496HvZ9AZnuH8 Or see "Need a haircut?"
Should I go to the Association of Asian Studies conference this year, mid-March 2022, which is being held in Hawaii? Fun? my last one before retirement.
Yes, that's another thing to try a figure out in this time of Covid - how to retire from the Library after about these last 30 years - but first complete projects of placing two 'niche' collections in some library - Ashan Masih's Hindi hymns (about 100) from his booklet and 5 DVDs and the Indian missionary women's cook book collection - from Dorthy Kittu Riddle's Landour Recipe (1964) book and others. Plus some of my Dad's and some of mine or Betty's papers and stuff (Amahl DVD) into Drew University or other libraries. Ahh - how to add Collections for posterity.
The two regular zooms have been interesting and nice, with my Woodstock School mates - weekly with the Class of 1959 (hosted by me) and the bi-weekly Class of 1960 (hosted by Jim Rugh and summarized each week nicely by Carol Rugh Green) Interesting topics and conversations - Parker Hall 1959 zoom (Feb 12 2022) and Pepper Pot 1960 zoom (Feb 12 2022)
Did that work? Can you see?
